Lara crashes a plane in new Shadow of the Tomb Raider footage

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

New footage for Shadow of the Tomb Raider has been revealed at Square Enix’s E3 conference. As well as a cutscene that shows Lara wrestling to land a crashing plane, features new and old were confirmed for the third part of the origin trilogy.

There’ll be grappling and wall-running, as well as some new stealth mechanics. One of those includes some sort of Frenzy mechanic, attached to a new weapon called fear arrows (which have likely built on the poison and hallucination arrows from Rise of the Tomb Raider), which force enemy soldiers to shoot randomly before collapsing, meaning they could kill their allies in the crossfire.

The gameplay trailer also offers a look at new vertical stealth takedowns as Lara ‘becomes the jungle’. Lara can also craft molotov cocktails, similar to the makeshift grenades she learned to make in Rise of the Tomb Raider. Overall, it’s the darkest the trilogy has ever been, with Lara creeping though the jungle slitting the throats of Trinity soldiers.

There’s not a huge amount of anything new to go on, but it did look like there’ll be plenty of what made Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider so good. You can watch a trailer below.

There’s also a whole load of new gameplay footage to take a look at:

Shadow of the Tomb Raider will release on September 14, 2018, and pre-orders are available now for Lara’s darkest adventure to date.
