Shadow of the Tomb Raider review scores – our round-up of all the critics

Lara Croft's latest adventure releases this week, which means it's time for a look at the Shadow of the Tomb Raider review scores

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Ahead of its release later this week, the Shadow of the Tomb Raider reviews have arrived. That means, of course, that there are a host of Shadow of the Tomb Raider review scores for you to feast your eyes on, as Lara’s new origin trilogy comes to a head.

In our own review, Matt liked a lot of what Shadow had to offer, saying “Eidos Montreal applies its signature gameplay touches to Tomb Raider, making for the series’s most satisfying balance of combat, exploration, and puzzle solving.” Sadly, however, the story doesn’t quite live up to all that, and Matt says that “these mechanical successes are let down by a journey that fails to deliver a compelling study of Lara’s persona shadows.”

For the most part, it would seem that those ideas have been reflected across the rest of the critics. At the time of writing, Shadow of the Tomb Raider has an OpenCritic score of 82, while the Metacritic score (for PS4) comes in at a 78. You can check out Matt’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider review, and a selection of review scores below. Unless otherwise stated, all scores are for the PC version of the game.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider review scores:
Gamespot: 6/10
Destructoid: 75/100
The Guardian: 3/5
The Daily Telegraph: 2/5
Game Informer (XB1): 75/100
GamesRadar+: 4/5
PCGamer: 84/100
PCGN: 7/10
Videogamer: 7/10
Wccftech: 86/100

It’s a solid effort then, but there while there are some significant outliers at either end of the spectrum, it would seem that Shadow’s story has let down some of the game’s more satisfying mechanical elements. Shadow of the Tomb Raider releases on September 14.
