How do you complete the Silent Hill f altar puzzle? We love a puzzle, and Silent Hill games are historically full of real head-scratchers. In Silent Hill f, the Otherworld takes on the form of the Japan-inspired The Dark Shrine, and getting through it involves some serious conundrum solving.
One of the earliest Silent Hill f puzzles you come across in the Dark Shrine is an altar offering puzzle. Faced with five offerings and five pedestals, you need to figure out where to place each offering. If you're struggling with the puzzle game aspects, we've got the answer to the Silent Hill f altar puzzle for you right here, with both a hint and with the actual solution.

How to solve the Silent Hill f altar puzzle
To solve the Dark Shrine Altar puzzle, you must match each of the five offerings to their pedestals. In Story and Hard mode, this is simply a matter of matching images, but it's a little more complicated in Lost in the Fog mode.
Place the items on the corresponding stands, and the game instantly progresses as soon as the fifth is placed. If nothing happens, double-check your placement.
Story Mode
The easiest of the three difficulties, Story mode tasks you with matching the knots of the thread on each offering with those despicted on the stands.
The answer for this, left to right, top to bottom, is as follows:
- Rat
- Fish
- Kimono
- Vase
- Paper fan
Hard mode
In hard mode, the images are flora-related. Some are harder to spot than others - namely the vase (look on the bottom!) and the rat (what's it wearing?!).

If you're still having trouble, the solution to the Silent Hill f altar offering puzzle in Hard mode is as follows, left to right, top to bottom:
- Fish
- Origami kimono
- Paper fan
- Vase
- Rat

Lost in the Fog mode
As with many puzzles when they really want to stump you, the Lost in the Fog mode features a riddle for you to unravel. The riddle reads:
"Kudzu, respected by all and a leader of the people, was wed to Pine.
Plum, loved by all and always at the center of any group, was wed to Bamboo.
Crysanthemum, who had no mate, spent their days studying under Kudzu and became known as the 'Sage of the East.' "
The tricky part of this is figuring out what each flower print is supposed to depict. If it helps, they're as follows:
- Fish - Pine
- Rat - Kudzu
- Paper fan - Bamboo
- Kimono - Plum
- Vase - Crysanthemum
The two pairs that are wed must be placed next to one another. Plum is obviously in the center of the bottom row, and Crysanthemum is on the 'east', in other words, the right-hand side of the display. This is all you need to be able to place the offerings correctly, but we've also got the answer in the image above.
