SimCity owners can choose between Battlefield 3, Dead Space 3, Mass Effect 3 and more for their free apology game on Origin

Has it really nearly been two weeks since SimCity first launched? Way back then, EA promised a free PC game to “get back in [the] good graces” of riled players on the wrong side of their extremely wonky servers. Today, they’re making good on that promise. Customers who register SimCity before March 25 will get to nab a game from EA’s wider portfolio for free.

If you’ve already activated SimCity, you’ll have an email sat in some inbox or other detailing how you can go about redeeming your game. Download portals will be rolled out across the world’s various regions between now and Friday, but to be eligible you must have registered your copy of SimCity before March 25, 2013 at 11:59 PM PDT, and have claimed your game by March 30, 2013 at 11:59PM PDT.

Now, the good stuff. Here’s what’s on offer:

  • Battlefield 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Bejeweled 3
  • Dead Space 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Mass Effect 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Medal of Honor Warfighter (Standard Edition)
  • Need For Speed Most Wanted (Standard Edition)
  • Plants vs. Zombies
  • SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition

“At Maxis, our studio values dictate that we innovate and create something that is quirky, complex and challenging,” read a developer statement. “Sometimes this bites us in the butt, but our servers are green and we’re seeing record numbers of players all online and having a great time.

“We’re getting great feedback from our fans and know that many of you are having fun and exploring this whole new expression of SimCity. We’re humbled by your patience and passion for the game. Thanks for building something very special with us, together.”

I’m not entirely sure it’s wise to describe SimCity’s server demands as “quirky”, but I imagine the gesture is appreciated nonetheless. What will you be nabbing?
