Looking for a Slay the Spire 2 roadmap? We now have an official roadmap and know what to expect from future updates and content, though Mega Crit are holding off on announcing any dates. Of course, there are some things fans would love to see make its way from the first game into Slay the Spire 2, but here's everything we know that's coming.
There's already a lot to explore in the early access version of Slay the Spire 2, with five playable characters, three acts, and ten Ascension levels to chip away at. Within each act there are also events like the Colossal Flower event and rewards and items, like the Lantern Key and Byrdonis Egg. While there's plenty to chew through, here's what's on the way in future updates.
Slay the Spire 2 roadmap
Mega Crit announced in the April Neowsletter a list of features, systems, and content making its way to the game. It is a roadmap of sorts, though there aren't dates given for when the content will release.
Here's what's coming next in Slay the Spire 2:
- A revamp of the badge/scoring system and a friends-only leaderboard filter
- Phobia accessibility mode
- More art and VFX
- Ongoing balance patches
- Steam Workshop support
- Multiplayer QOL features
- Official Twitch plugin integration
- New game modes
- More cards, events, relics, and potions
- Alternate Act 2 and Act 3
- New character
- The Bestiary (a way to learn about enemies)
There isn't a schedule for when these changes will be added to the main game, though the beta branch will have frequent updates for testing. For other longer-term content, we'll be looking to the 1.0 release for bigger changes like ascensions, characters, and what the Act 4 boss entails.
Ascensions
There are currently ten Slay the Spire 2 Ascension levels, with varying levels of difficulty for each character. In the first game, there are 20 ascension levels, so we are expecting more levels to be added in the future.
Game modes
Yano expanded on the new experimental game modes in an interview with PC Gamer, saying there are three modes in the works: competitive, shortened, and another social-focused multiplayer mode.
The competitive mode is for "people who want to play in a very competitive fashion,", the second is for "people who want to have the Slay the Spire experience, but do not have the time to do so," and the third gives you another way to interact with people socially with the current systems that exist today.
Act 4
There are three acts in Slay the Spire 2, and with each act you heal and gain rewards, defeating the boss at the end to unlock new characters, ascension levels, and more. In the first game, a fourth and final act added the Corrupt Heart boss, and if you've gotten to the end of Act 3 in Slay the Spire 2, it does hint that more is on the way.
Whether Act 4 will be the final act, or if future acts could be added alongside, we'll see, but we already know that a fight against the teased Architect boss is coming. If you're up for the final fight right now, there's a Slay the Spire 2 mod that lets you fight the Architect ahead of time, giving you a chance to test your might.
Yano has stated that the true ending won't come before any of the new game modes, so there's likely going to be a lengthy wait until we see how Slay the Spire 2 ends.
New characters
When speaking about the design process for adding new characters, Yano highlighted that the next addition will likely be mechanically complex compared to the original cast. "I think we're probably going to be looking at a slightly stranger character than the originals for the next character," said Yano.
At the very end of the early access trailer, there's a glimpse of what looks like a new character, though not much has been given away about their abilities. Fans have been hoping that The Watcher, the fourth character from the first game, would make their way into the second game. However, it doesn't look like the next character will be The Watcher if the trailer is anything to go by.
