SMITE World Championship raises over $2 million dollars; still more than two weeks to go

SMITE WC

Hi-Rez Studios are celebrating right now, after achieving over $2 million dollars for their SMITE World Championships early next year. The mythical MOBA has been running an event called “SMITE Odyssey”, which has been releasing content to the game every week. A portion of the money derived from these content packs has been adding to the continually growing prize pool, which still has over two weeks left before the event starts.

Thanks to the SMITE Odyssey initiative, the game has been releasing DLC every week to help fund the prize pool. While it may not be on the same level of that as Valve’s Dota 2 International earlier this year, SMITE’s success is a sure sign that the eSport prize pools are experiencing an expentinitonal growth, no matter what the title.
