Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army 2 shuffling onto PC later this year

Re-attach your scopes guys, the big Z’s are crawling back from Berlin again. Rebellion have announced that they’re releasing a sequel to their Sniper Elite spin-off Nazi Zombie Army, and that it will be here before the year’s out.

Nazi Zombie Army 2 returns for much of the same gory nonsense that the first game offered, with gloopy headshots aplenty as American OSS agent Karl Fairburne battles his way through hordes of undead of the very worst kind: bloody Nazis.

“We really wanted to heighten the demonic, nightmarish tones of the first game,” said Rebellion’s head of creative Tim Jones in a conversation with Eurogamer.

“The environments, the levels, the soundtrack all give a strong feeling of descent – each encounter, each level becoming progressively more hellish. Most importantly though, we’ve expanded the legions of Nazi undead with some really intimidating new enemies which we’ll reveal soon.”

The original zombie DLC pack for Sniper Elite V2 only released last February, so the turn around on this has been amazingly quick. It’s down to people’s love for hilariously gross slow-motion death cam, apparently. “We just put [the first Nazi Zombie Army] out there and it’s been very very good business and we’ve created a lot of fans who just like a straightforward gory shooter against zombies. It pretty much made its money back on the day of release. That was awesome,” explained Jones.

Call of Duty clearly paved the way for Nazi Zombies, with one game in seemingly every handful now offering a zombies mode. Sniper Elite’s has been one of the most pulpy successes, and returning to its ghoulish co-op campaign could be a lot of fun. For those more partial to living, breathing Nazis having their particulars shot off, Sniper Elite 3 is due next year.
