Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 looks like it’s going to be much more ambitious, and much wetter, than previous games in the series. It promises multiple ways to approach objectives, with sniping only making up a portion of the game.
Hopefully this means combat doesn’t completely fall apart when you’re not holding your breath while peeking down a scope, because combat in the series has been notoriously bad outside of the sniping itself.
With a developer in the trailer saying you’ll be fighting your way straight into trouble, it sounds like the series could be moving away from sniping even more. This would be a bit of a misstep for a game with the word “Sniper” in the title.
I’m ready for a really good dedicating sniping game. Popping skulls from a distance has always been a favourite tactic of mine in games that let you do it, but the only series that’s come close to realising the potential of long distance shooting has so far been Sniper Elite, which itself isn’t perfect.
Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 does look pretty, though, with that CryEngine 3 shine evident in every gloomy frame of the trailer. Have a look for yourself:
