Stardew Valley 1.4 will “add some depth to post-marriage life”

The "everything" update has a little bit of, well, everything

Stardew Valley’s next big update is still on the way, and developer Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone has revealed a few more details about what to expect from the 1.4 update. In keeping with the slow trickle of information on the big patch – we’ve previously heard about separate money in multiplayer and fish farming – Barone has revealed a couple of more features.

“I’ve been unofficially calling 1.4 the ‘everything’ update because it touches pretty much every aspect of the game in some way or another,” Barone tells USgamer. “One of my major goals was to add in a lot of ‘quality of life’ features that make the game more convenient and effortless to play.”

You’ll now be able to simply hover over an item in your inventory to see whether or not you need it for the community center bundles, which should make it far more convenient to mass items for those collections. You’ll now be able to press tab to switch between inventory rows. “There are lots of things like that in this update,” Barone says. “Once players experience them, I think they’ll wonder how they ever managed to play the game before!”

1.4 will also “add some depth to post-marriage life.” Barone isn’t specific on what these additions will look like, but says post-marriage features are a common community request, and “there will always be more that can be done” here. 1.4 will have “some additions that I’m proud of and I hope are very heartwarming for players” in this area.

We still don’t know exactly when 1.4 will release. On Twitter back in July, Barone said the update was “nearly finished,” but given his largely solo development on Stardew Valley, maybe it’s no surprise that things are still taking some time.
