What can you do to unite the diverging factions of the galaxy after years of war while, at the same time, entertaining the masses? The answer is you hold a sports tournament. But not golf or football – in the year 2350 you gather the champions of the Solar System to compete in the spectacle known and loved as Steel Circus.
This exciting sport of the future is like most ball games played today that pit two sides against each other to score the most goals, except it has a couple of important tweaks. Firstly, the pitch or arena that the teams play in isn’t a passive one – there are obstacles that get in the way of passes and tackles. But the biggest difference is that each champion has two special abilities.
Some champions are able to support their teammates by dishing out buffs and healing them when they’re in need. While others are brawling powerhouses that excel in aggressive play. And yet others specialise in wearing down opponents from afar.
So it’s a bit like Overwatch if it was played in a tight arena and all the guns were removed? Hmm, something like that. You can get a look at the game in action in the trailer below.
Steel Circus is currently in alpha and the developer is hosting a closed alpha test this weekend – from March 9 to March 11. You can find precise times for North America and Europe in this image, but don’t worry, you should be able to play the game in most regions.
