Team Fortress 2 won’t be getting an official Halloween-themed map this year

Traditionally, Team Fortress 2 has an official, spooky-themed map released in time for Halloween. That won’t be the case this year, however, as the development team are far too busy creating new maps, cosmetics, and a new campaign with contracts and weapon collections, to go along with the next major update.

That doesn’t mean you won’t be getting anything Halloween-themed at all, though – all six of Team Fortress 2’s past Halloween updates will be activated during the season. On top of this, there will be plenty of community content highlighted as part of the festivities.

“The reality is, if we produce a holiday-specific event map this year, it means we’ll have to stop working on everything else,” reads the blog post. “So: We’ve decided to turn Halloween mostly over to you. This year’s Halloween Update will be a showcase of all the best Halloween-themed community content (items, maps, taunts and unusuals) you guys can come up with. We’ll also be activating every one of our past six Halloween Updates, so there’ll still be plenty of spooky holiday-themed game modes to play.”

To choose the best content, they will be scouring the Steam Workshop looking for the best content that’s tagged with ‘Halloween’, so if you have a creation that fits make sure you have the correct tag by October 18.

Normally this content is only available to view during Halloween or a full moon, but as an incentive Valve are allowing any newly submitted Steam Workshop creations that fit the bill to be viewed all year round. “So don’t get too gross or out-there with your submissions,” pleads the blog post.
