EVO confirms Tekken 7’s Solid Snake ‘reveal’ was “a little joke”

It turns out the video shown at EVO 2010 wasn't a character reveal.

Fighting game competition EVO 2019 has just wrapped and though a sort-of tease during the event seemed to suggest that Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series might be heading to Tekken 7, it looks like it’s not to be. The event’s official Twitter account has now confirmed that it wasn’t a character reveal, so it looks like Snake won’t be coming to the seventh King of Iron Fist tournament’s roster.

During EVO 2019, a video shown to attendees (via IGN) at the Mandalay Bay stage just before the Grand Finals of the Tekken 7 competition seemed to show Solid Snake’s picture with some audio from his codec radio accompanying it. This caused some to conclude that Snake might potentially be heading to the game, perhaps in DLC. However, EVO has now confirmed that the video was a “joke.”

The tweet says “just to clear things up, the Snake cameo video that we showed during Tekken finals was our idea of a little joke. It was not intended to imply a character reveal, and was done on our own, without consulting Bandai Namco. Sorry for any confusion!”

You can check out a brief glimpse of Solid Snake’s appearance at the event in the video posted by user MTLSaiyan on Twitter.

At least for now, it looks like players won’t get to see Solid Snake make an appearance in the long-running fighting game, but those keen excited to see some new faces head to Tekken 7 can look forward to season 3, which was just announced this weekend by Bandai Namco with a new trailer.

New characters on the way include martial arts master Leroy Smith, Tekken 6’s Zafina, plus two mystery additions.
