The Division 2 will release on PC via the Epic Games store. Ubisoft’s second foray into the post-apocalypse is now available for pre-order from Epic’s new store-front, which was announced late last year and offers an 88/12% revenue share with developers.
In a press release, Epic and Ubisoft say that the Standard, Gold, and Ultimate versions of the game will all be available, and will guarantee access to the game’s private beta. The two companies also say that they “will work to integrate key components” of both Uplay and Epic’s own online services.
Epic’s announcement doesn’t explicitly mention Steam, but The Division 2’s page on Valve’s store no longer exists at time of writing. That essentially confirms that Ubisoft is forgoing Valve’s platform entirely, opting instead for the greater revenue share offered by the new storefront. It’s a major coup for Epic’s store, by far the biggest game to make the move to the platform since its launch late last year. Until today, only a handful of indie developers had made the switch.
When we reached out to Ubisoft, a representative told us they weren’t able to provide comment. A statement given to Polygon, however, states that the company “has no plans to release The Division 2 on Steam.”
Epic says that it’ll be partnering with Ubisoft again in future with “additional select titles” to be announced later this year. There’s no word on what those might be, but there are a few games I might keep an eye on. It’s probably too late to bring Far Cry: New Dawn to a new storefront, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Trials: Rising come to the platform. And as For Honor and Rainbow Six Siege both grow, we could eventually see both of those find a new home as well.

This announcement does come pretty late in the day – The Division 2 release date is March 15, which means we are barely only a bit more than two months away from our trip to Washington D.C.
