Halloween is unanimously the best holiday of the year (sorry, Christmas, but no other holiday allows such a social acceptance of dressing up as as something grotesque and drinking yourself silly). [Ed: you clearly don’t know how to enjoy Christmas…] However, in The Haunting of Billy, Halloween hasn’t gone exactly according to plan for Billy and Cindy. When Cindy is kidnapped and taken to the nearby haunted mansion, the cornerstone of every rural town, Billy must defy every horror cliche imaginable to go and rescue her.
The Haunting of Billy is a 2D, side-scrolling roguelike set in an old, decrepit mansion. You aren’t alone however, and many spooks and ghoulies – from werewolves to zombies to ghosts – occupy the twisting hallways of the mansion and obstruct the path to your loved one. Luckily the mansion looks kindly upon the brave, and you’ll find yourself armed with over 100 weapons, ranging from swords to guns and magic, to keep away those who go bump in the night.
Fans of Risk of Rain and The Binding of Isaac will appreciate The Haunting of Billy’s roguelike aspects, as each dungeon and it’s shops, enemies and pickups are randomly generated each time you enter, and also the difficulty, as your save is lost each time you die, making wise and strategic decisions crucial for victory in this game.
