The Town of Light is a first-person psychological thriller that occurs in a real insane asylum

The Town of Light

Independent development studio LKA. is making quite an interesting game. The Town of Light will follow the memories of a fictional girl, Renee, as she suffers from schizophrenia. What’s not imaginary though is the game’s setting, which takes place in the Volterra Psychiatric Asylum, Italy –  shut down in 1978.

We’ve got a teaser trailer of the game below, and it’s definitely one to keep an eye on.

The game sets the scene with Renee returning to the asylum long after it has been decommissioned, and recounting the memories of her 16 year old self during her time there. This is where the player comes in – as Renee will use her voice to guide them through her story, experiencing her fears and drama.

It’ll also provide native support for the Oculus Rift, if those who would, dare.

LKA. have gone to great lengths to redesign the Volterra Psychiatric Asylum by going to the real life derelict ruin for research. “The Town of Light is a game that want to keep memories of what’s happened alive, focusing on mental illness issues that exists in our society.” said a press release.

The Town of Light will be released for PC, Mac and Linux in Fall later this year. But we can expect to see more of the game at this year’s Develop conference, which takes place later this month.
