CD Projekt wants to teach you Gwent, The Witcher 3’s hit card game

Gwent cards 2

Guest-reviewer Geralt of Rivia was pretty high on Gwent, the gaming sensation that’s sweeping Temeria and the rest of the Northern Kingdoms in The Witcher 3. Rafał Jaki and Damien Monnier are developers with CD Projekt Red, and they spend this lengthy tutorial video breaking down the basics, and some of the nuances, of Gwent. They make a compelling case for spending more of your time in The Witcher 3 playing Gwent rather than getting distracted by the red-herring quests to save your family and friends.

In all seriousness, Gwent is pretty good. The ten-card max across all three rounds makes for some fascinating strategic dynamics. I can imagine against human opponents it would be even better, because the bluffing game would be very different from the way the AI plays Gwent.

My Geralt is a fiend for Gwent. No matter how dire things are, no matter what horror he just witnessed, he’s always ready for a few rounds of Gwent.
