Yes! Here’s bathtub Geralt in Netflix’s The Witcher

The new trailer confirms the bathtub scene

The burning question on every Witcher fan’s mind when it comes to Netflix’s upcoming series is this one: Does Geralt lounge in a washbasin at any point? We all know the scene from The Witcher 3 – it’s a pause in the action, and a tender moment between Geralt and Yennefer. For better or worse, it’s become one of the most memorable images from the game.

So will that scene – or one like it – be making the jump to the show? The answer is a resounding yes, as confirmed by the brand new Netflix The Witcher release date trailer launched today. You can check it out below, with the Geralt soaking-in-a-tub scene appearing at about the 1:08 mark.

Earlier this year, io9 asked showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich during a press roundtable whether a bathrub scene would appear in show. “There is a bathtub this season,” Hissrich said. “I won’t tell you who’s in the bathtub, but there’s a bathtub.” Now, we know it’s Geralt of Rivia himself.

One thing to bear in mind about The Witcher series Netflix is producing is that it an interpretation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels rather than the games, which themselves were interpretations of the original novels. That means you’re inevitably going to wind up with ‘discrepancies’ between the two, as one person will imagine a scene in a written story differently than another will.

Now, that said, there’s plenty of room for a later work to reference one that came earlier, and it’s a good bet that Hissrich and company will weave in a few wry references to the games that have made The Witcher a popular property outside its native Poland.

After all, CD Projekt Red’s games are the reason most of us are familiar with Geralt and his friends to begin with, and why we’re excited to see the show.
