The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will feature permadeath with Dark difficulty mode

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Dark Difficulty

Did you find The Witcher or its sequel to be an easy game? If you did, then I may have some interesting news for you. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be available with a devilish difficulty setting: Dark Difficulty. In this mode, not only are the enemies and monsters much more deadly, but death is a one time occurrence.

“If you die five minutes before the ending, it’s over.” explained quest designer Phillip Weber.

In an interview with VG247, CD Projekt RED dev Phillip Weber runs through the companies reasoning for the setting. “Usually normal is easy, and easy is – well, you can be on your phone while playing.” Weber said. “We want it to be easy to learn but hard to master.”

I don’t know about you, but completing either Witcher while playing on your phone sounds like an achievement in itself to me. But CD Projekt RED wanted something definitive when it comes to difficulty, and more importantly, permanent.

“Dark difficulty is something that many people in the company are very passionate about. Because they want a real challenge.” assured Weber. “If you die five minutes before the ending, it’s over.”

Does Dark difficulty sound like something you’ll be taking for a spring in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, or will you stick with Normal for your first time round?
