Ex Witcher 3 dev now working at Techland on an open-world fantasy game

Damien Monnier, a developer who worked extensively on The Witcher 3 and Gwent, is now at another Polish studio, Techland, developers of Dying Light, working on a completely new IP as lead designer.

Once we know what it is, it’ll be added to our upcoming PC games list.

Announced back in May, Techland told Eurogamer the game is an open-world adventure in a fantasy setting and with RPG elements. Like Dying Light, it’ll be playable solo of cooperatively.

Monnier has four years of experience working on The Witcher series, and he was a senior gameplay designer during The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s development, before becoming lead designer of spin-off card game Gwent. He certainly seems like a good fit for lead on this, then.

Prior to working at The Witcher developers CD Project RED, Monnier was a level and game designer at Sony Evolution Studios, developers of PlayStation exclusive racers MotorStorm and DriveClub.

“As a whole, we’re extremely excited to welcome all the recent additions to the Techland family,” Techland told Eurogamer. “We’ve got really big ambitions for our next internally developed games so people with ingenious ideas as well as the skill and knowledge to bring them to life are absolutely essential.”
