Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 takes the Player’s Choice spot for Evo 2017

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

After a two week fundraising battle to determine the ninth game at Evo 2017, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has been declared the Player’s Choice pick for this year’s event. It raised just over $71,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, drawing in thousands of dollars in the final hour of the donation drive.

The fundraiser became a two horse race very quickly, with Pokkén Tournament and Marvel establishing themselves as leaders of the pack. During the final day of the donation drive, the two games were neck and neck, with a single dollar separating Pokkén and Marvel at one point. The final count saw the Marvel community raising $71,690, the Pokkén community raising $66,609 with the next game being Killer Instinct with $6,116.

Marvel’s earning of the Player Choice’s spot marks its final year at Evo as an official game on the roster, due to the release of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite later this year. Many Marvel fans assumed as it was their final year of real competition, they would get an appropriate send-off with an automatic place but apparently not. Luckily, the fire and passion stoked in the Marvel community via this fundraising drive means that Marvel players old and new are back to practicing ahead of July. Marvel will now open the Sunday finals for Evo, live from the Mandalay Bay Arena in Las Vegas.

If this donation drive has got you at all interested in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, then you’re in luck. The system specs for the PC version are now available on Steam, ahead of the game’s launch in early March. If your rig can run Street Fighter V without any hiccups, Marvel should work on your PC without any issue. You better start practicing those infinites ahead of July.

Evo 2017 runs from July 14-17 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
