Thief voice actor will Russell something up for Underworld Ascendant

Underworld Ascendant

The most recent Thief was strange in its own ways, but jettisoned much of what was unique about the games before it – Hammerites, Pagans, Keepers and even Stephen L. Russell, seasoned soft-talker and the voice artist formerly known as Garrett.

He will, however, claim a space in the Underworld Ascendant sound folder.

Russell has signed on to provide unspecified character noises for the reboot currently rising on Kickstarter. His noir narration accompanied three Thief games, and he’s enjoyed steady employment from Looking Glass disciples at Arkane, Bethesda and Irrational since.

The new Underworld’s OtherSide Entertainment is headed up by Looking Glass founder Paul Neurath, so it’s no surprise that the team there have remembered Russell’s talents.

“At Looking Glass we worked closely with Stephen, where he voiced some of the more memorable characters from Thief, Thief II and System Shock 2,” said OtherSide. “Stephen also did voice acting for Fallout 3 and Skyrim. We’re looking forward to working with him once again.”

The Underworld campaign is going pretty well! It’s at about $450,000 at the end of its second week, with another $150,000 to go. I’d really like it if we got that co-op support funded at $1,200,000, but let’s see what happens, eh?
