Unravel release date is set for February, sad old woman revealed

Unravel release date trailer

Unravel’s heart-string plucking tale of Yarny and his adventures as a very, very long length of, well, yarn has been teasing our emotions since its surprise showing at EA’s E3 press conference. Now it’s finally got a day and date when it will be entering our hearts and minds, tying us up and spitting us out as sobbing wrecks: February 9th.

Looking to be unravelled? The best PC indie games are what you need.

The news comes paired with a trailer, giving the first hints at possible story beats, including slightly clumsy pensioners and discarded yarn-hearts:

What could it all mean? At least it ends with a smile. Unraveled is playing in some very strange territory, mixing slow-paced storytelling and warm, friendly themes with the harsh cold of its levels and fast platforming. There’s a disjoint there, at least in trailers, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it functions as a full game.

Unravel will be distributed via Origin at £14.99 / €19.99 / $19.99 – a little steep for what’s looking like a fairly short and linear platformer, so hopefully there’s a surprise in store. While EA are publishing, it’s the first non-sports game from Coldwood Interactive, a Swedish studio that’s been in the industry more than ten years.
