How do you defend the antenna in Space Marine 2? The Tyranid-trampling horde shooter has more than its fair share of challenges. Between keeping the overwhelming number of smaller insectoids at bay and fending off Carnifex, there’s a lot to keep track of. Perhaps the game’s greatest obstacle, especially when playing on the hardest difficulties, surfaces when you’re tasked with defending multiple structures from gargoyles.
At the end of the second Space Marine 2 story mission, Skyfire, your squad will not only have to dispatch the avian threat tearing its way through the integrity bars of four antennae, but you’ll also have to contest with waves of tyrannids that get progressively more difficult. It’s a miserable job solo, as your AI companions can go AWOL when dealing with the gargoyles, but taking full advantage of the tools the game gives you makes it doable. Read on to learn the tech you’ll need to succeed in one of the co-op game’s biggest trials.
How to defend the antenna in Space Marine 2
To defend the antenna in Space Marine 2 make liberal use of grenades and grenade-equipped weaponry – namely the Bolt Rifle with Grenade Launcher. Though your task is to defend the antenna, the irony here is that launching explosives at them is the most effective way to quickly thin the gargoyles latched onto them.
More generally, we’d recommend staying on the move, focusing your efforts on the antennae and ranged Tyrannids that chip away at your shields and health. Chairon and Gadriel are, from our experience, less than helpful as they seldom target the gargoyles. As such, leave them to run interference until you’ve dealt with the pests. You can then thin the horde on the platform until the next batch of gargoyles arrives.
As soon as you run out of explosives, restock where possible. If you’re completely out of juice, then make sure you’re running a double-ranged weapon setup to give yourself the best chance of gunning down the gargoyles while remaining mobile. While you run the risk of being overrun while prioritizing the antennae, the unhelpful AI pretty much forces you to take on that role. Even if you can’t deal with all of the gargoyles on an antenna in one go, take a moment to swat away your immediate on-platform pursuers before continuing.
If you’re really struggling to get through the section, then you can also consider dropping the difficulty. It’s sacrilege, we know, but you won’t be branded a heretic for bringing the heat down a notch – at least, as long as you don’t tell anyone.
