Slay a rat ogre in virtual reality as Warhammer End Times: Vermintide gets a VR level

Vermintide in VR

Skaven-slaying team action game Warhammer End Times: Vermintide will get a standalone VR experience on HTC Vive. Better yet, it will be completely free.

Got your headset and wondering which games to lose yourself in? Here are the best VR games on PC.

The announcement was made during a livestream in which gameplay from the VR level was shown, and has since been confirmed by developers Fatshark via Twitterand Vermintide’s Steam community page. There’s no news on support for headsets other than the Vive, unfortunately, but the experience will be free.

More details are promised “shortly”, and in the meantime, we can glean a few things from the stream.

The experience, like many first-person VR games, will use teleportation for movement. This is among the many reasons why it has had to be designed for VR from the ground up.

Players start the VR game in a tavern, which serves as the hub connecting three separate levels: a murky forest, a series of tunnels navigable by a hand-cart on rails, and gloomy Castle Drachenfels, where the Skaven outbreak began. Two weapons were used: a bow and a shamanic staff that enables you to throw fireballs.

A word of warning though: it’s intense. Streamer Sevadus shrieks and swears frequently as giant rats swarm him. His verdict, in a more composed moment: “Jesus, this is really scary.”

Could this be the first VR action experience to make a real impact? Take a look at the stream and let us know what you think. We’ll be sure to let you know when Fatshark have more to say.
