Ubisoft has announced plans for an array of animated adaptations of some of its biggest franchises. It seems that the idea is to bring those games to new audiences, because some of the shows seem to be massive departures from those established IPs – we’ve got everything from a Far Cry: Blood Dragon adaptation from the producer of Netflix’s Castlevania to a cartoon that’ll turn Watch Dogs family-friendly.
Watch Dogs will be toned down from its M-rated origins to a “cybermystery” cartoon aimed at tween viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series is currently untitled, but the concept art you can see above certainly suggests a massive departure from the source material.
Producer Adi Shankar is heading up Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Vibe, based on the 80s-style neon-soaked Far Cry 3 expansion. (This one is apparently aimed at “young adults.”) The Blood Dragon show is set to be part of a “multiverse” that brings in other Ubisoft IP. We’re also apparently getting an animated sketch comedy more broadly about gaming.
When it comes to shows that make sense and have not left me blinking blankly at my screen, there’ll also be cartoons based on Rayman and Ubisoft’s mobile title, Hungry Shark, as well as a Rabbids Invasion special that follows up on the TV series by bringing the rascally lagomorphs to Mars.
