Resident Evil Village is multiple Steam top seller
PCGamesN
Resident Evil Village has had quite the debut on Steam. Capcom’s latest horror-fest has claimed not just the top spot on Steam’s bestseller list, but three in this week’s top ten.
SteamDB’s top sellers list for the week ending May 9 puts Village’s base game at number one on Valve’s platform - little surprise, given the hype surrounding the game and its looming leading lady, Lady Dimitrescu.
It’s still pretty impressive, though, given Village only launched on May 7 - so it hit the top spot in two days.
Curiously, a bundle that includes both Village and the previous game in the series, Resident Evil 7, appears in both sixth and seventh.
We don’t know why, as they both link to the same store page, but perhaps this is Capcom’s reward for including a nine-foot-tall vampire witch who’s taken the internet by storm.
Speaking of which, Village has had the biggest Resident Evil launch in Steam or Twitch history, hitting a peak concurrent player count of more than 101k on day one and reaching more than 600k viewers on Twitch.
In PCGN’s Resident Evil Village review, our own Dustin Bailey concluded that it “pulls the best bits from the series’ past and recombines them into something fresh and surprising”.
While it “can’t maintain that momentum for its entire run”, he adds, “Village’s heights are among the best in Resident Evil’s illustrious history”.
