World of Warcraft players are getting double XP for staying inside and playing

Blizzard has activated a 100% experience buff in WoW through April 20

The outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus has found a lot of people staying indoors with a lot of free time on their hands. Blizzard has activated a special new buff called the ‘Winds of Wisdom’ for the upcoming month, and it provides a 100% boost to experience gains for the duration.

“If you’re staying inside and find yourself returning to Azeroth, or if you’re leveling another character (or two), you’ll be getting a special bonus to help you on your way,” the company writes in a recent post on the WoW website. Winds of Wisdom increases all experience gained in WoW by 100%, and it runs through April 20.

The buff applies to everyone playing, including players who own the Starter Edition or Legion, the post explains. You’ll be able to use all your favourite heirlooms, too, so it’s a perfect time to crank out a bunch of leveling in WoW – and to get characters ready for Ny’alotha, the new 12-boss Waking City raid. With countless players around the world effectively stuck inside, games companies are reacting to the coronavirus outbreak in a variety of ways. Several are giving away free games to help keep people occupied while they wait out quarantines, while some manufacturers like Razer have pitched in to help meet the surge in demand for medical supplies.

Here’s how the games industry is helping to fight the coronavirus outbreak. For players, in many cases the best and most helpful course of action is to stay inside and keep grinding out those levels.
