World of Warships Review

How fun are the vehicles to control in World of Warships?

Depends on what you're playing. With the massive battleships you sense the weight of the ship when turning or accelerating. With the small destroyers you feel the speed and maneuverability. Carrier captions don't really care about ship control, they just put it on auto and proceed to manage their planes.

That leaves us with the cruisers, where things get complicated. Cruisers depend on speed and maneuverability to stay alive. You are a cruiser, you have some armor, but against the massive guns of a battleship that won't save you. Not getting hit will.

For balance reasons some cruisers are more or less mobile than others. In some cases this can be frustrating, when you're sailing a glass ship that can't turn or accelerate.

Overall, controlling the ships is OK, but there are frustrating exceptions.

What theaters of WW2 are represented in World of Warships?

It doesn't work like that. You have the fleets of some of the nations involved in WW2, but you're not reenacting historical battles. The maps vary, from ice to desert, from east to west, but land is sparse and as such are kind of hard to place in a certain geographical location.

Yes, there is a lot of care put into modeling the ships. That's probably one of the game's biggest strengths.

Enough. You find games fairly easily. You can find articles and other knowledge in detailed articles.

PvE? What PvE? The bots? Forget about those, they're just there as a tutorial.

Yeah, a bunch of premium ships. Got what I expected, a decent money maker.

How fair is the free-to-play model in World of Warships?

Overall, I'd say it's OK. There is no pay to win, although some premium consumables definitely give you a very slight advantage. It's nothing massive, it's nothing that can change the outcome of an engagement, but it's there ... a nagging feeling about what's to come.

How realistic is World of Warships?

The ships are. Anything else has nothing to do with reality, unless someone can explain to me how a ship can be invisible at 6 km in clear weather. Some maritime tactics work (like escorting capital ships, forming lines, focusing fire), but the real-life equivalent of the game would be suicidal ships charging one another over and over again.

How good are the graphics in World of Warships?

They're OK for their purpose. Better than WoT and with better framerate.

How good are the sounds in World of Warships?

Good. When you fire the 12 guns of a battleships the sound gives you the feeling that whoever is at the receiving end will get hurt. Badly. Smaller caliber guns have less "boom" to the sound, but still feel impact full.

How does World of Warships run on your PC?

Reasonably well, the game feels much better optimized than WoT. I would expect better framerates though, since the graphics aren't spectacular and the action is fairly slow.
