World of Tanks 8.6 update released; reworks SPGs, adds new map, and ten new tanks

If you enjoy explosions from a distance then World of Tanks’ SPGs (self-propelled guns) will be right up your street, these artillery pieces are able to rain merry hell on your enemy from miles off. The latest update to the game, 8.6, has added nine more of the fellas into the mix and rebalances the group as a whole. It’s also added upgrades that will take the SPG tech tree all the way up to Tier X.

For non-artillery gunners there’s also a new map and a British heavy tank to play with.

I’ll get to to 8.6’s focus in a second but first there’s the new map to cover. Sacred Vallet is an Asian map which mixes open spaces with some tight mountain passes. Artillery will be king when it comes to taking out tanks in the open but those mountain ranges will offer the more short range vehicles a good opportunity to lay in wait.

The Excelsior is a new British heavy tank and it’s built to be decidedly average – well-armoured, decent rate of fire, and ok at full-throttle, it won’t outdo any other heavy in their chosen speciality but its versatility means it can adapt better than the rest to most situations.

Finally, those SPGs. They’re all gaining access to new tech upgrades – letting you take them up to Tier X equipment. There’s also nine more to play with:

  • Soviet

    • SU-122A

    • SU-14-1

  • German

    • G.Pz. Mk. VI (e)

    • Pz.Sfl. IVb

    • G.W. Tiger (p)

  • American

    • M44

    • M53/M55

  • French

    • AMX 105 AM mle. 47

    • Bat.-Châtillon 155 55

Goodness, that’s a lot of tanks.

The update’s been released and will install the next time you run the World of Tanks client.
