Blizzard working on PvP toggle for World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor

The WoW death ghost: a familiar sight to accidental PvPers.

Blizzard are addressing fan frustration with WoW’s existing flagging system on PvE realms, which occasionally sees players bring down the wrath of other players on their own heads via misclicks or errant AoE attacks. A toggle intended for release alongside new expansion Warlords of Draenor will allow players to avoid PvP in any scenario, “regardless of their actions”.

Blizzard community manager Micah Whipple told players on the Battle.net forums that they were only ever flagging for PvP under the current system if their own actions dictated it, not those of an outside party. But he also recognised that it can “absolutely at times be involuntary”, which becomes “notably frustrating”.

Warlords of Draenor’s new system would allow players to toggle off PvP entirely, “in all situations”.

“Heals toward flagged players would fail, coalescing to PvP realms wouldn’t be possible, misclicks and AoE’s would never damage a flagged opponent,” explained Whipple. “It’s actually quite a bit of work because of all the systems involved, but it’s still something we think PvE players should have, and how the game should work for them.”

The PvE realmers among you: is this something you consider a frustration, or is sudden and terrifying PvP just one of the game’s many emergent possibilities?
