Warcraft movie trailered for Comic-Con eyes only

Warlords of Draenor

A lone human warrior roams a featureless desert – the shield on his back meagre protection from the dark clouds and green lightning above. Finding another buckler among the dust, he picks it up – surely a futile gesture against the elements. But what’s this? He pounds on the piece on metal like a drum, calling forth an emerald monster. By its side, a hammer befitting its size. By the warrior’s, a sword. They circle each other, these two landmarks in the wasteland, before charging. A splash logo appears: Warcraft.

That’s the Warcraft teaser trailer shown at Comic-Con in San Diego this weekend. I’ve had to render it in clumsy fanfiction, unfortunately, because I haven’t seen it. And you’re not likely to either.

A Blizzard rep told Polygon there are “no plans to release the mood piece shown” this weekend.

“We are excited about the Warcraft movie, which begins production in 2014, and we look forward to sharing more in the future,” said a voice which seemed to emanate from the developmental obelisk on Saturday.

We do know a little more than the company are letting on. We know, for instance, that the film has a director in Moon man Duncan Jones, and features words from Blood Diamond writer Charles Leavitt. We know that Man of Steel and Specific Rim outfit Legendary Entertainment are bankrolling, and that shooting is scheduled to begin in the first three months of next year.

How’s that for sharing, Blizz? Pretty please could we have that 30-second trailer now?
