World of WarCraft engineers will soon be able to craft Abrams’ Bad Robot mascot

In homage to the work of J.J. Abrams, Blizzard are introducing a new craftable pet for anyone trained in the engineer profession: the Bad Robot mascot. If you watched Lost, Star Trek, or any other project Abrams had a major part in, you’re likely already familiar with the little guy. If not, I’ve included the logo video below (I’m nice like that).

Blizzard revealed the upcoming addition in a blog post, saying “[c]oming in a future patch, characters with the Engineering profession will be able to produce this mechanical homage to the company that brought us award-winning television shows like Lost and Fringe, and are continuing the epic Star Trek and forthcoming Star Wars film sagas. Everyone has a chance to get their hands on this pet, allowing them to show off their mutual appreciation for Bad Robot, and the stories they’ve brought to our TVs and movie screens.”

It’s all well and good that this reference is being added to the game but I’m a little surprised that it’s this particular reference. Abrams has created many popular series and films, it’s true, but why’s he received this singular honour? Maybe this is the start of a slew of such pets. I’d love to see little R2 droids coasting about Azeroth, or your very own house elf, or maybe a wet-shirted Mr Darcy.

Cheers, VG247.
