World of Warcraft stats reveal that more people are still playing Alliance – this must end!

World of Warcraft infographic

Since it started consuming lives and ruining relationships in 2004, Blizzard has been diligently collecting World of Warcraft stats on everything from the faction split (the Alliance are more popular, damn them) to how many PvE instances folk have run (900K per day). So now they’ve made a handy infographic so that we can drown in glorious stats, and some of the numbers are, frankly, a bit crazy.

Poor Garrosh Hellscream has been killed 400K times, for instance, which is a lot of punishment, even if he is a bit of a douche.

The big number that Blizzard really wants you to know about is the 100,000,000 accounts that have been created since 2004, including trial accounts. That’s not to be sniffed at. 20 times the number of people living in Scotland have made WoW accounts. And because we all love alts, 500 million characters have been made.

Of those 500 million characters, 11 million of them are the newest race, Pandarans. And to cater to these social pandas and all their chums, 9 million guilds have been founded.

I’m one of those chaps who absolutely loves a bit of story in my MMO, and Blizzard has a tendency to put a lot of ridiculous Easter Eggs in their quest text, so more often than not I read rather a lot of what the scribes at Blizz churn out. Maybe not all of it, though, because there’s around 6 million words, or 12 copies of The Lord of the Rings.

I still can’t get over more people playing Alliance than Horde, though. Orcs for life, yo.
