New A Hat in Time trailer shows off its third chapter and 2017 release date

A Hat in Time

Another title that was Kickstarted during that boom of successful game projects in around 2012, A Hat in Time has been slowly gaining momentum over the past year. Like most games of that era, A Hat in Time has gone through multiple big delays, with its initial Q2 2013 launch being pushed continually back until now, where it is currently scheduled for release sometime in 2017.

In that time, director Jonas Kærlev has gone from having A Hat in Time be a one man operation, to a multi-person venture with his own studio, named Gears of Breakfast. Made up from volunteers from various countries, Gears of Breakfast have been working on A Hat in Time continuously and have now released a new trailer to show off the third chapter Hat Kid must venture through in her quest to get home.

This chapter, named Last Bird Standing, has Hat Kid battling against the Conductor and DJ Grooves across exploding trains, film sets and bustling city streets. As A Hat in Time is styled after platformers like Banjo Kazooie and Super Mario Sunshine, everything is super cartoony and silly, with the aforementioned DJ Grooves being a penguin with a giant afro wearing platform shoes.

With A Hat in Time going up against Yooka-Laylee in 2017, it’s going to be quite the year for fans of 3D platformers. Watch the trailer above and expect more news about this colourful headwear based platformer in the new year.
