Ace Combat 7’s story is Top Gun meets Game of Thrones

Ace Combat 7 Skies Unknown

Bandai Namco have released a new trailer for their dogfighting drama, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, ahead of its appearance at E3. Focusing on the game’s story, it sounds like a mix of Top Gun and Game of Thrones to an outsider.

Be someone’s wingman with these PC co-op games.

Returning to the Strangereal universe (yes, it is called that), Ace Combat 7 follows the conflict between the Osean Federation and the Kingdom of Erusea. The game’s story seems to swap between different characters from both Osea and Erusea based on the trailer, with each side giving their own perspective on the war.

With princesses, International Space Elevators and jets with laser cannons all featuring with Ace Combat 7, don’t expect your standard Tom Clancy-esque tale if you are jumping into the series for the first time. From the scenes shown in the trailer, missions will include your standard dogfights, alongside bombing runs, area defence, air-to-sea battles, and battles against giant planes capable of deploying robotic drones. Like I said, this isn’t your grandad’s aerial combat simulator.

While the trailer focuses on single-player, Ace Combat 7 will feature both online and local multiplayer for players looking to show off their skills. With the game coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, it’s unknown if there will be any sort of cross-play between console and PC pilots.

Ace Combat 7 will be playable at E3, with Bandai Namco showing off the first non-VR mission to the public. It was initially scheduled to release at the end of this year, but series director Kazutoki Kono delayed the project to 2018, so the team could make the game the best it can be.
