Age of Empires 2 is getting a new expansion pack, Microsoft have announced. Yep, you read that right: Age of Empires 2, the game you were playing 14 years ago. Or potentially yesterday, if you’ve been playing the HD remaster of the classic RTS, which new expansion pack The Forgotten is for. The big news here though is not the passage of time, but the origins of the expansion. The Forgotten was originally a mod, and the small group of fans behind it have helped create the official version.
PC Gamer have reported that the expansion is currently being worked on by SkyBox Labs alongside the amateur Forgotten Empire LLC team. The official version of the mod Forgotten Empire will feature new civilizations in the forms of the Italians, Indians, Slavs, Magyars, and Incas, with missions set over four new campaigns, bolstered with new, smarter AI. All of The Forgotten expansion will be broadcastable over Twitch should you wish to show your might to the world or shout-cast a multiplayer match.
The Forgotten will launch on Steam for Age of Empires 2 HD in the autumn, but until then you can follow Forgotten Empires on their Facebook and website to see how the expansion is progressing.
