Some significant changes in Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation have just arrived, as update 2.4 is now out. There’s new free DLC, balance changes, a UI overhaul, and more. Here’s what to expect when you update and launch.

A new co-op map pack brings along nine new maps designed for co-op play with tightly packed spawn points where players can team up. They range from 2v2 to 4v4 maps, including the largest 3v3 map to date. That DLC has its very own Steam page with more details on each of those new maps.

The reworked UI is an attempt to make the game more accessible, “with new orbital ability icons, improved chat displays, and more.” Hopefully it’s less confusing for anyone looking over your shoulder. With this patch, Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation is also getting support for Vulkan, an API which should help make the game run just a little bit smoother across all supported operating systems.

Modding is now more intuitive, difficulty on specific scenarios has been tweaked to feel more accurate to whatever level you choose, and there have been a lot of balance changes. For the full list of thosehave a look at the patch notes.

To celebrate, Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation and its DLC are now 50% off on Steam, until August 28. Not too shabby.
