Assassin’s Creed 3 trailer contrasts violence and death with incongruously serene music

History! Today is all about yesterday, with Total War: Rome II‘s slow-motion, dog-barking, sex-murdering trailer facing off against Assassin’s Creed 3’s slow-motion, patriot-heartening, Amazingly Gracious trailer. Assassinations! Caligulations! But which one is the most historical? Which one has been slowed down more? You decide, by taking a look.

For better or worse, Assassin’s Creed trailers have a history of modestly juxtaposing down-tempo songs with pictures of dead bodies, and this one’s no different. What’s that? You’re trying to reconcile your innate aversion to violent imagery with the calming tones of a child singing a gently uplifting melody? Yeah, looks like it and all mate.

Assassin’s Creed 3 was recently delayed on PC, and is now set to launch on November 23. The trailer suggests that you “ignite the revolution” on July 4th – whatever that might entail. Are Ubisoft suggesting we literally set some stuff alight? Should we attack anybody wearing red? I’m so confused by all this history.
