Bike of the Wild is the Zelda rip-off you didn’t know you wanted

the legend of zelda breath of the wild bike of the wild

Nintendo’s debut for the Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, may not be coming to PC any time soon (at least, not without an emulator), but we are getting the next best thing: an open-world adventure that recasts Link as a sentient, riderless bicycle named Klink.

I may be stretching the term ‘next best thing’ there.

The description of Bike of the Wild on its Steam page offers some insight: “The evil Lord Gearon has kidnapped the Princess Steelda, can our Hero Klink complete the Bike-Force and save Hillrule?”. So, it’s on you to search the lands of Hillrule and turn up 18 hidden memories, revealing more of what occurred in this strange land.

Videos on the Steam page turn up a large variety of biomes – from ice worlds, deserts, chess boards covered in giant fruits, and scrap yards full of rusted car sculptures… it all looks a little surreal.

The world is full of high peaks and slopes down which to build up speed for huge jumps, so, if not a perfect replacement for the finely crafted open-world Zelda offering, Bike of the Wild should let you grab some totally sweet air.
