Blizzard’s All-Stars is now Heroes of the Storm

Heroes of the Storm

And that’s about all we know so far. The new MOBA game from Blizzard brings Dota home, but will no longer be known as All-Stars. Instead we’ll be playing Heroes of the Storm at some undesignated point in the future. There’s even a pretty trailer to prove it.

As previous name All-Stars suggests, Heroes of the Storm will pit teams of players taking on the roles of famous Blizzard characters against eachother. In the animated trailer above we can see a WarCraft Orc, a StarCraft Marine (sounding a little Jim Raynor like there) and a Diablo Demon Hunter duke it out.

That’s all for now, but Blizzard promise there will be more at BlizzCon on the 8th and 9th November this year. “Set aside whatever you knew about Blizzard All-Stars” they say. Sounds like were about to see the new face of MOBAs. You might want to keep an eye on this website in the coming months.

Some people might not like me for saying this, but I hope that they make a game that is simpler and more accessible than the current games that are out there like Dota 2 and League of Legends. Considering how huge and established Dota 2 is right now they should seek to differentiate themselves from that and make something that doesn't use the standard Dota map and has a more focused and smaller selection of heroes to use.

Mainly I am saying this because while I fully realize that Dota 2 is a great game that a lot of people love, it wasn't for me and I would want something different. Blizzard are good at taking an existing genre and making a game that appeals to a huge audience and becomes very successful.

I doubt that's what they are attempting to achieve. Quite the contrary, they want to win over the hardcore crowd, to have as big of a stake in the e-sports scene as possible. Which i can not blame them for.

If you are looking for a casual MOBA, check out Strife, from guys at S2 games (responsible for HoN).
