The Bo Path of the Teal Lotus release date was Thursday, July 17, 2024. The Metroidvania launched on PC, Xbox Series consoles, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
The cute game was met with great critic reviews upon release, achieving an immediate Metacritic score of 80 for its stunning art style, balanced difficulty, and compelling story, with its short length being one of its few negative points.
Bo Path of the Teal Lotus story
In Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, you play as the titular Bo, a celestial blossom sent from the heavens to fulfill an ancient prophecy. You venture through a series of different stunning locations on your way, including a haunted castle and a Japanese-inspired metropolis, unlocking different paths as you go.
On your adventure, you also meet various yokai (supernatural spirits from Japanese folklore) and characters from other Japanese myths. You can interact with them to gain side quests, or just have a little chat in between exploring.

The gorgeous metroidvania plays out like most of the best platformers on PC. Bo can be seen dashing, jumping, and leaping across different levels, mastering skills as the game progresses.
Bo carries a staff that can be used to wield powerful abilities such as movement abilities like the Grappling Gun, or weapons like the Mochi Mallet. You can change and apply abilities by drinking arcane tea. You can also acquire Daruma dolls, colorful dolls with special abilities that can be upgraded and deployed to turn the tide of battle.
You can also purchase unique amulets for your Omamori Strap that can be equipped at shrines and provide special abilities and perks, such as healing, dash regeneration, and special attacks.
