BioWare to send free games to affected players in Black Ops 2 PC disc mix-up; “If the universe thinks that you should be playing Mass Effect right now, who are we to argue?”

Yesterday, 1000 new owners of Black Ops 2 on PC opened their boxes to discover the second disc of Mass Effect 2, rather than Call of Duty. Perhaps at the time they thought themselves unlucky, custodians of one less video game. Now though, BioWare might be sending them another three.

But first, I’m afraid there’s another punchline.

“Rumor has it that about a thousand customers who purchased Call of Duty: Black Ops II for PC today were also treated to a surprise copy of Mass Effect 2,” said BioWare via their blog. “If you were one of the affected, chances are you thought it was a mistake, but we prefer to think that it was an omen, and when the universe talks, you should listen..

“If the universe thinks that you should be playing Mass Effect right now, who are we to argue? In fact, we want to help.”

The first fifty fans to send a photo of themselves with their Mass Effect disc to [email protected] will get a free code for Mass Effect Trilogy, say the developers. A lovely idea.

Only, it’s not going to work. While 1000 discs read as Mass Effect 2, they were printed as common-or-garden Black Ops 2 install discs. And they’ll photograph exactly the same way.

Thanks, VG247.
