Black Ops 2 weapons retain level after prestige level wipe

Previous Call of Duty games allowed players to wipe their unlocks once they reached the top level and begin again, well, almost. When you began again, you would gain one prestige level. If you’re playing someone who’s prestige level 2 you know you’ve levelled up all the way to 50 twice, just for the sheers balls of it. This isn’t he case in Black Ops 2.

More after the break.

Whilst you can still wipe your overall level, your individual weapon levels will remain. One of Swords noticed a number of tweets to this effect from Black Ops 2’s design directorDavid Vonderhaar, saying:

“Just got this bug from QA. ‘Weapon levels are given after unlocking a gun that was leveled up on a past level progression,’

“That’s what we call NAB. Not a bug. If you Prestige and unlock the gun, you’ll pick up right where you left off.

“If something has been a certain way a long time, the assumption when it doesn’t work the way it has in the past is that it is a bug.”

So, whilst the guns will still need to be unlocked as before, the actual level will carry over between prestige wipes. That final tweet has an ominous suggestion that other series stalwarts may be on the way out.

Time will tell, Black Ops 2 is slated for a November 13th release date.
