Call of Duty: Ghosts Extinction mode trailer shows noob squad mauled by aliens

Call of Duty Ghosts Activision Infinity Ward

Call of Duty: Ghosts is out now; here’s our Call of Duty: Ghosts review.

You’d think Infinity Ward would be good at playing their own game. Heck, they’ve been developing Call of Duty for over a decade, they should really be able to take out one measly invasion of aliens. Yet in the latest trailer of Call of Duty: Ghosts Extinction mode (the game’s answer to Treyarch’s own silly sidegame, Nazi Zombies) we see how one team are torn apart in minutes.

It’s not actual footage of the game being played, of course. It’s a pre-rendered thing using assets from the game. Essentially an in-game cinematic. Though it does show the visuals of Call of Duty: Ghosts off in a good light, they’re almost up to Battlefield 3 standards.

I’m still disappointed Infinity Ward have made such a po faced mode. If you’re going to make a game mode with a fiction so outside of the straight-faced military shooter you insist on then at least make some effort to have it be funny. It looks like Infinity Ward are aiming for Aliens style horror and that’s going to be extremely hard to hit. If they miss that target then they’re in danger of having a bland sidegame that no one really wants to play.

For a look of something more closely approximating game footage you should watch this:
