Call of Duty: Ghosts has a ‘Squads’ mode, whatever one of those is

Call of Duty: Ghosts is out now; here’s our Call of Duty: Ghosts review.

Infinity Ward’s Mark Rubin is either a terrible tease or a PR liability. “First video from new phone,” he tweets matter-of-factly, before training his camera on whatever happens to be around the office – in this case, a sub-menu of the new Call of Duty game featuring an unheard-of mode named ‘Squads’.

Could this be the new cooperative future we were promised?

In the clip, you’ll recognise the Americas. Bits of continental soap drift towards the gurgling plug hole of the world’s oceans. Pan left, and we get a brief view of the menu options, which include ‘Online Play’ and a greyed-out heading – maybe ‘Local’?

When we last looked into the possibility of a return to the series’ cooperative Spec Ops mode in Ghosts, prospects looked slim. But Infinity Ward community coordinator Candice Capen tweeted not so long ago that the game will “have a cooperative mode of sort”.

“We’re not announcing it yet and I’ve no clue when/if we will,” she added.

Perhaps ‘Happy Snapper’ Rubin just did.

Rubin has previously promised to talk Ghosts multiplayer in “mid-August”, and not before. That timeframe suggests a possible appearance at Gamescom in Cologne, which opens to the public on Thursday 22.

Thanks, VG247.
