In the teaser sting at the very end of their press conference at Gamescom, Microsoft revealed that RTS Halo Wars is returning with a sequel. Not only that, but it will be developed by strategy studio extraordinaire Creative Assembly, the guys behind Total War.
No release date beyond a Fall 2016 window, no gameplay, no nothing except a brief cinematic trailer. But it’s enough to spark our interest. Creative Assembly are very, very good at strategy. The first game, from Age of Empires developer Ensemble Studios, was a bit ropey thanks to being a fiddly console RTS, but pointed to the potential of a Halo strategy game. Perhaps Creative Assembly are the guys who can actually pull it off.
