Why wait for Monster Hunter: World to come to PC in the far-off future when there’s another co-op action RPG all about slaying huge beasts you can try out right now? Dauntless is currently in closed beta and we’re giving you a chance to get in on it. So grab an axe, some hefty armour, and get ready.
As you’d expect from this kind of game, Dauntless is all about a violent gameplay loop: you head out into the wild world, track down an initimading beast, slaughter it with your mates, and then skin and gut it for materials you can use to craft better gear.
Simplifying it to that undersells the game though. Each stage of that loop ties together exploration, surprises, and technique. You’ll need to learn how to track while on the hunt, and also assemble your weapons and co-op partners in a way that will allow you to conquer your prey most effectively, else you’ll be chewed up and spat out.
Leaping attacks, pixel-perfect strikes, and combo moves will all need to be executed to perfection if you’re to drag your kill back to your campfire with all your limbs intact.
