Dead Cells is a game made out a thousand rage quits. It's a tough, 2D combat game that combines parts of the roguelike and smashes them with the Metroidvania to create something the developers call a "roguevania."

A roguevania, in this case, means that Dead Cells has the interconnected world of item-based progression of a Metroidvania, as well as the permadeath and replayability of a roguelike.
That's not all the game has going for it, either. The game's a pixel-art wonder, with backgrounds creating a huge sense of scale, animations ensuring combat if fluid and fast, while also gory and explosive when necessary. Not to mention the breadth of atmosphere on display, from a sea mist to a steep castle wall, and not forgetting the red-sunned cemetery.
The visuals aside, the combat is where the game really shines, there being over 50 weapons and spells to master as you face enemies that will trick you, outmanoeuvre you, and keep you guessing. In fact, the developers are confident enough to compare it to the tough but fair combat of a Souls game - and they're not wrong to do so.
