Call of Duty: WWII and Destiny 2 were the two highest-selling console games of 2017 in North America. The figures, published by Business Wire, also show that Destiny 2 was Activision’s biggest-ever PC launch.
Call of Duty: WW2’s upcoming DLC, The Resistance, arrives in February.
That means that Activision were responsible for the number one and number two highest-selling games (based on revenue) of 2017 in North America. Call of Duty: WWII secured the top spot, surpassing the $1 billion worldwide revenue mark less than two months after its release. The game’s success means that the Call of Duty franchise has extended its reign as the top-selling series for a ninth year. The franchise also claimed Chart-Track’s UK Christmas number one for the fourth consecutive year, having topped the charts for seven consecutive weeks.
The figures also confirm that Destiny 2 has outsold the original Destiny. The game was the first Activision title to launch on Battle.net, and quickly became the publisher’s most-successful PC launch.
