Dishonored’s reception has been noisily good-natured, and now everybody’s had a chance to get stuck into the back of an unsuspecting guard or two thoughts have turned to DLC. Which rat in Dunwall’s sprawling narrative would Arkane choose to run with, we wondered? The answer, for now, is none of ‘em.

Dishonored’s first helping of DLC will be a set of ten challenge maps called Dunwall City Trials. But don’t worry – there’s a whaler’s boat on the horizon, and its name is The Next One Will Be Story-Driven, with a New Player Character.

Dunwall City Trials is designed to test your skills in combat, stealth and mobility – and might be the perfect opportunity to try out the parts of that triumvirate you haven’t yet specialised in.

It’ll be made up of ten challenge maps, including an arena battle fought against waves of enemies, a “gravity-defying” series of drop assassinations, and an ambiguous “race against the clock”, say Bethesda. It’s due in December, at a quite reasonable $4.99.

After that, there are two story-driven DLC packs scheduled, both for 2013. The first will come in the Spring, and is described thusly:

“Daud, the leader of a group of supernatural assassins known as ‘The Whalers’, will be the focus of the second add-on pack. Make your way through new Dunwall locales and discover Daud’s own set of weapons, powers and gadgets in this story-driven campaign. How you play and the choices you make will impact the final outcome.”

Yup – we’ll be leaving Corvo’s company and donning the mask of another assassin. Onewith a different set of skills.

Excited? Us too. Tell us all about it in the comments.
